Introduction to Holding, Shaping, and Listening to the Pelvis

Hi, this is Kelly. And this is an introduction to the following video, which is an embodied ritual that I call Holding, Shaping, and Listening to the Pelvis.

And I wish I had said your pelvis instead of the pelvis. I tried to remember to say your spine or your pelvis, but I forgot.

There’s a Holding and Shaping Introductory Reflections document that I would recommend reading first before you go into this practice.

I wanted to highlight a couple of points.

This embodied ritual is a practice in bringing a neutral, curious, and normalizing frame of mind to your pelvis. It may be helpful to tune into the bones of your pelvic bowl and how they hold a steady space for all the softness they protect.

I thought this might be a helpful embodied ritual practice — it’s something that I do on a daily basis to connect to this place in my body, because a lot is changing for me. The shape of my pelvis and stomach is changing.

So to take a bit of time to again bring a neutral, curious, normalizing frame of mind to this part of my body — I have found very useful, and I hope that it will be for you too.

I also want to validate that we may hold difficult memories and perhaps even shame in our pelvis and pelvic area, and it can be triggering to bring awareness here.

We wanted to offer some options for self-care. As you watch this video, you have the option to participate or not. You can just watch and notice what arises. You can take your time, take breaks, get a cup of tea, and save this one for later.

If you have the capacity, you can simply acknowledge all that your pelvis has held for you with great compassion.

And as a reframe, your pelvis can also be such a source of strength, stability, movement, and pleasure — if that feels accessible for you.

Reach out if you need to. Talk it out or journal. And above all, please be kind to yourself.
